 | ALL-TIME HIGH 2.69 MILLION TRAVELERS PASS THROUGH BEN GURION INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT THIS SUMMER An all-time high of 2.69 million travelers passed through Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv this summer, a 4% increase compared to the same period in 2009. Another record was also set in August 2010 with 1.48 million travelers passing through the airport on nearly 9,700 flights.
| JERUSALEM TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO WESTERN WALL The Western Wall in Jerusalem will become more accessible to disabled travelers with a new elevator reaching from street level to the Wall to be completed by early 2012. The 70-foot elevator will start at Misgav Ledach Street in the Old City and descend to a pedestrian tunnel leading to the plaza in front of the Western Wall.
| THE 38TH ABU GHOSH VOCAL MUSIC FESTIVAL, SEPTEMBER 29 - OCTOBER 2 The 38th Abu Ghosh Vocal Music Festival will showcase world-class vocalists and classical musicians in the picturesque village of Abu Ghosh near Jerusalem, September 29-October 2. The festival will feature a capella music concerts by groups from around the world, including two different performances by Voces8 from England showcasing works by Schubert, Mendelssohn, Gershwin and Nat King Cole, as well as the German Chamber Philharmonic, Israeli pianist Lahav Shani and French soloist Emanuel Hanun. www.agfestival.co.il.
| ACRE FRINGE THEATER FESTIVAL, SEPTEMBER 26-29 The 31st Acre Fringe Theater Festival will showcase more than 65 performances by artists from Israel and around the world at the Crusader castles and beachfront promenades of the Old City of Acre, September 26-29. | EL AL ISRAEL AIRLINES AND JETBLUE SIGN PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENTEl Al Israel Airlines and JetBlue signed an agreement last month, enabling passengers to purchase a single ticket for flights on both carriers in one simple transaction, as well as check luggage to their final destination. Beginning October 1, El Al passengers will also be able to purchase tickets for departures from all JetBlue destinations throughout the USA, Latin American and the Caribbean and connect to nonstop El Al flights to Israel from JFK International Airport in New York City. | EPSON RED SEA UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION, NOVEMBER 9-11 Photographers from around the world will travel to the resort city of Eilat for the Epson Red Sea 2010 Shoot Out Competition, November 9-11. | 26TH HAIFA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, SEPTEMBER 23-30 More than 75 Israeli and international films will be showcased at the 26th Haifa International Film Festival, September 23-30. Works include Tamara Drewe, the new movie by British director Stephen Frears, and The Town, directed by and starring Ben Affleck, as well as television dramas, documentaries and short films.
| TEL AVIV MUSEUM OF ART PAYS HOMAGE TO AVIGDOR ARIKHA WITH NEW EXHIBITION A new exhibition paying homage to and featuring the works of late Israeli artist Avigdor Arikha opened last week at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. The display includes illustrations created by Arikha for Shai Agnon's A Stray Dog, as well as other paintings and self-portraits.
| BIKE THROUGH THE NEGEV DURING ANNUAL SDE BOKER 100 FESTIVAL The Sde Boker 100 Festival will feature a non-competitive road biking trip, guided adventurous cycling tours into the Negev desert, as well as an all-ages bike ride to the breathtaking vantage point over Nahal Zin, October 15-16.
